    Pounding the New Rector

Help to welcome our new rector, Fr. John Tober and his wife, Amy to St. James’.  What is a pounding?  A pounding is an old-fashioned tradition celebrated in many churches when a new rector is welcomed to the church with gifts of food.

Traditionally, a pounding would provide the rector and his family with a pound of staples, such as a pound of sugar, a pound of flour, a pound of salt, etc.  If you wish to participate in the “pounding”, please see the sign-up sheet in the Parish Hall.  It will be available after services starting June 9, 2019. Please note we have listed suggested items, so as not to duplicate. If you have a nonperishable item which is not on the list, such as pecans, chile, other Mesilla Valley staples,  please feel free to add to the list.

Bring your items to the Parish Hall during the week of June 16-23rd and place on the long white plastic table in the parish hall with a securely attached note with your name, welcome message, and your reason for giving them the item, if you so desire.

Any gifts, baskets, and nonperishable items will be collected that week and taken to the Tobers' new home on Sunday, June 23rd, after the 10:30 service.
